Steady flow of new TTS-fitted short sea RoRos 11.06.2009

The fleet of short sea RoRos that are entering service equipped with TTS Ships Equipment AB cargo access solutions continues to grow steadily.

One of the most recent, and as previously announced, Maas Viking, was delivered end of May. This is the first in a series of eight 3,700 lane-metre RoRos ordered by Epic Shipping Group and Pacific Basin and built at Odense Steel Shipyard. Maas Viking is deployed on the Vlaardingen – Killingholme route and will later this year be followed by Humber Viking, both under operation by Norfolkline. Equipment supplied by TTS on this vessel series comprises a full width stern ramp/door giving direct access to both main deck and fixed ramp to the upper deck, a side-hinged ramp cover and bulkhead and pilot/bunker doors.

Another eight vessel series is the Flensburger ConRo 220 where Cobelfret will soon take delivery of Mazarine, the first of six ships ordered. The last two in the series have been ordered by Bore for operation by Mann Lines. The equipment delivered by TTS is similar to the Odense series but the Bore vessels will, in addition, feature three levels of movable car decks, two of which will be electrically operated.

In late May, Plyca, the sixth ConRo vessel in a series at Stocznia Szczecinska Nowa was handed over to Dutch owned Spliethoff for operation by Transfennica on the Hanko-Lübeck route. The TTS RoRo equipment onboard Plyca and her sisters provides simultaneous access to all four RoRo decks, which considerably speeds the loading and discharging operations in ports.

In China the cooperation with Jinling Shipyard, Nanjing, has been continuing for over ten years and, in total, 16 vessels of a similar design have been contracted by different owners and operators, all featuring TTS RoRo equipment. The latest delivery is the Tor Fionia, entering service between Immingham and Gothenburg in June under DFDS operation. One more vessel will follow for DFDS and then a series of six ships for Finnlines will begin.

DFDS has also recently received another TTS-fitted vessel, Lisco Maxima, from Nuovi Cantieri Apuania in Italy. This is the fifth in a series of eight vessels which, besides DFDS, have been ordered by Grimaldi and Superfast.

Short sea shipping is at the forefront of the European Union’s transportation policy, accounting for a substantial portion of all freight moved in Europe. TTS Ships Equipment AB is established in this market, providing cargo access equipment to many newbuildings, and is currently scheduled to equip another 25 short sea RoRo vessels worldwide in the next three years.
